You may have heard of the teacher explaining magnets to Grade 3s who asked: "Can you give me a word for something that picks things up that starts with the letter M?" Half of them responded "Mom".
Historically, probably more than now, communities have circled the wagons for those in need, to pick up the pieces for someone in need. Perhaps it's because the need has never been greater, but even though we may have a consumer or acquisition society, there's never been in history more charitable organizations inviting people to love, for what could be seen as foolishly giving of themselves to people they will never see, in the name of circling the wagons for the world and even the environment around us. We give of ourselves in the name of God's dream for the world.
The Trustees of our congregation thought that it was important to help our congregation consider "Planned Giving". While many of the resources from the wider church were helpful, the Trustees felt that something locally produced would make more sense for us.

Anecdotes of vital congregational life draw on a broad experience, 'signs of life' in congregations across the United Church of Canada.

A workshop designed to help groups articulate their understanding of the purpose of the church, to explore some of the reasons why we would want to invite people into this faith community, and to explore some of the things that keep us from inviting.
